Help Tracy Johnson Battle Liver Cancer
Donation protected
To my friends and family,
As some of you may know, our family got hit with some very serious medical concerns this past year. My mom, Tracy Johnson, has been in and out of the hospital since this summer, and it looks like these visits are only going to get more frequent.
In 2013, Tracy was diagnosed with Alpha 1 (or Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency to be fancy), which is a genetic mutation that causes the body to attack itself in the liver and lung functioning. Over the years, Tracy maintained health by going to appointment after appointment and remaining strict on medications and diets. As well as she has done (and we remind her often that she is doing everything she can), her symptoms still became worse, with her liver taking most of the damage.
At this point in time, the only cure is a new liver through a rigorous transplant process. This was scary news, and the family has been preparing for this next step. Unfortunately, what we thought would be a simpler process has turned for the worse. After some thorough testing for transplant eligibility, we received the news that they have found cancer on her liver. This cancer is aggressive and spreading quickly, leaving my mom with few options for treatment. With the urgency of this new diagnosis, things are starting to move fast and are becoming extremely overwhelming. Unfortunately, this news only comes with more extended hospital stays, more scary and painful tests, and more strain on our family.
If you know my mom, you know that this ask is not done lightly. My mom has been the rock for her family her whole life, and now it is our turn. We ask for support in any way you see fit, and we ask that you please share this if you can. Any and all contributions will be going towards her transplant and medical bills.
I also encourage everyone to do research on Alpha 1, as this is a rare genetic mutation that is widely unknown by many, including top medical staff. Symptoms of this disease go largely undetected until it is too late.
We appreciate your time in reading and sharing this.
