This has been such a passion project for me, spanning the last ten years, but seventeen if you include when the idea was conceived.
I’ll tell you the story of its evolution. In 2009, I took my first trip to Ireland with an original show from the Gaelic American Club, and I fell in love. I fell in love with the people, the culture, and the beauty. Finally, in 2014, I wrote a 15-minute play based on that visit and won the playwrighting contest held at the GAC. In 2016, the GAC wanted to take another original play over to Ireland and chose mine to represent. It then became a 50-minute One Act, making its premiere in Ireland that year. 2018 I decided to bring it to Scotland for the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. While fundraising, I brought it to NYC (Hutson Valley Guild Theater and Manhattan Repertory Theater) and venues in CT. In 2019, we made it to the Fringe Festival to sold-out shows and rave reviews. When I returned, I realized I’d love to see this on the big screen, so for the next four years, I went back to school, read every book on screenwriting, and learned how to write for film. I now have my screenplay and rather than try and sell it, I decided to take on another adventure by producing it myself.
It has been an amazing journey so far, and things have progressed forward nicely. I won the Best Comedy Feature Screenplay 2024 at the Georgia Comedy Film Festival in August. I’m also a Finalist in the Mystic CT Film Festival, a semi-finalist in the Rhode Island International Film Festival, The Women’s Independent Film and Television Festival, and a nominee in the SilverScreen International Film Festival (European Film Union Gala) held in Scotland. I’m currently waiting to hear from a few more festivals.
I am now in the casting and fundraising stage of this journey and reaching out to anyone willing to help continue this beautiful forward momentum. Below are the Synopsis and logline of the film.
Eire We Go - A comedy by Tracy James Terry
Synopsis:
The Wilde Players Theater is falling apart, and its artistic director has neglected to pay the mortgage. The players stumble upon a contest that if winning would help them save their theater. It just so happens to take place in Ireland. The Wilde Players then find themselves experiencing the adventure of a lifetime. A few too many pints, grinding gears, narrow roads, sheep, love, and loss bring this endearing group together and memories that will last a lifetime.
Longline:
On the verge of losing their beloved community theater a ragtag American acting troupe travels to Ireland to perform in a competition that will change their very lives. Despite Personal issues, fierce competition, and cultural differences, they manage to rally together for an unexpected outcome.
I plan on filming in Ireland next year and have already paired with a production company in Limerick. We will be filming the majority of the movie there for at least 22 days and three days in the States. I intend to give back to the community that helped create this story in the first place by helping facilitate the growth of film in Limerick and put the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield on the map.
