Tracey is my 53-year-old disabled niece, a widow who lives alone in Sioux City, Iowa. She needs oxygen 24/7 and can only walk with a walker. Five years ago, her tumor-filled adrenal glands were removed, making her steroid dependent. She also suffers from MASH liver disease, chronic adrenal deficiency, emphysema, osteoporosis, degenerated disk disease, enlarged heart, and COPD. Last week, she was released from the hospital after being diagnosed with sepsis and pneumonia. This was her 12th hospitalization in just two years.
Because Tracey needs oxygen all the time, her one battery isn’t enough when attending doctor appointments. It only lasts about 1.5 hours, but waiting for the free medical rides provided by her insurance can take up to 1.5 hours after the doctor visit. This means her battery often dies before she gets home. Insurance and Medicaid won’t pay for an extra battery, so she’s in dire need of an Inogen G5 & Rowe 6 double battery, which would give her an additional 3 hours of oxygen. She also needs a new Android phone to communicate with her doctors and hospital, since her current phone can’t connect to the patient portal apps.
Despite all these challenges, Tracey remains positive and strong. Her two granddaughters mean everything to her, and their love gives her hope. Any financial support or prayers for Tracey would mean the world to her and help her continue fighting through these difficult times.
