Update as of 7/26/24 from our parents:
We wanted to update our family and friends regarding Trace. Today marks 23 days that Trace has been hospitalized. Thankfully, he’s been making progress. He is off all IV’s and they put a wound vac on his abdominal incision to speed up the healing process. He’s been using the wheelchair more with assistance and they have also introduced a walker. He’s been struggling with endurance, stamina, and being out of breath quickly. This will all take time and work as he builds his strength back.
Trace was cleared to move into the Inpatient Rehabilitation center, but unfortunately that has been put on hold because he needs an exit plan in place from rehab. We’ve been looking for apartments that can accommodate his limited mobility but there are limited options. And when you also consider affordability, the options are even fewer. Our struggle to find housing has us a bit stuck. He can’t leave the hospital until a rehab accepts him and a rehab won’t accept him until he has accommodating housing. So we are working fast to hopefully figure out this loop.
We feel for him, he didn’t ask for this. I wish I could say his spirits are high and that he is thinking positively, but he is struggling, this is all hugely life changing for him. We would love for him to stay with us but unfortunately we moved into our RV back in February to be mobile for visiting and helping family in other areas as well. We are staying positive and trusting that God will work this all out. We just have to keep walking the path before us and the light will show. Your continued thoughts, prayers, and support in whatever way you can are greatly appreciated. We love all of you more than you can know!❤️❤️
Hello friends and family,
On the night of July 3rd, our brother Trace was in an accident on the road while driving home. He was followed by another vehicle which resulted in the individuals of the other car opening fire on him. Trace received nine gunshot wounds to his body, ranging from his chest to his feet. Thankfully, people in nearby homes came to Traces rescue after hearing the incident and helped with his wounds before the paramedics arrived, which we believe saved his life. Unfortunately, Trace has been in the hospital since the incident. He has received multiple surgeries to heal his injuries and we are hoping there will not be a need for more. Due to extensive bullet wounds, Trace had to have a kidney removed along with part of his colon, he has a knee immobilizer on his right leg, a brace on his left foot, and will be unable to walk for the next 6-8 weeks. Once Trace is discharged from the hospital, he will be going to a physical rehabilitation facility to regain strength and mobility that has been lost due to his injuries and extensive hospital stay.
Due to the nature of the incident and his limited mobility, we are moving Trace out of his apartment as well as selling his very recognizable vehicle out of concerns for his safety. After multiple surgeries, weeks in the hospital, rehabilitation, and loss of wages during his time of recovery, Trace is going to be left with an enormous amount of expenses. As his family, we are doing our best to support him financially, but it is a heavy burden. We are kindly asking for donations of any amount to help assist him with his medical bills, physical and occupational therapy, as well as moving and living expenses. We are heartbroken for what Trace has experienced, but we are incredibly thankful to still have him with us. We are hoping this GoFundMe can help Trace focus on his healing journey ahead of him without concerns for his finances. If you are unable to donate; thoughts, prayers, and any good vibes you can send are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you to everyone who has already shown support to Trace, and us as his family during this difficult time.
With love,
