Trace is a brilliant, quick-witted 3-year-old who brings joy to everyone he meets. He loves books, toy hammers, and will shake your hand with a cheerful, 'pleasure to meet you good sir,' whether he knows you or not. His days start with a request for a 'small smacker of honey,' inspired by his love for Winnie the Pooh. Trace’s curiosity and kindness light up our lives every day.
In December, Trace was diagnosed with Autism level 2. The recommended intervention for him is ABA therapy, a behavioral-based therapy designed for neurodivergent kids. ABA therapy is meant to provide the following:
Communication skills – supporting expressive and receptive language, helping children communicate their needs, reduce frustration, and engage more meaningfully with others.
Emotional regulation – teaching coping skills to manage big emotions, transitions, and sensory overload.
Behavioral challenges – addressing behaviors like aggression, self-injury, or impulsivity by identifying underlying needs and teaching safer, more effective ways to respond.
Social skills – learning how to interact with peers, take turns, share attention, and build relationships.
Daily living skills – strengthening independence with routines such as dressing, toileting, feeding, and following instructions.
Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover ABA therapy 100%. I have spent countless hours calling gatekeepers and policy makers, filling out applications, and joining waitlists, but we still need help bridging the financial gap. I refuse to let pride or lack of funds keep my son from the support he needs. Please consider donating to help Trace access the therapy that will make such a difference in his life.
