I am a single mom of two, and my youngest is an autistic son. We live together in a one-bedroom apartment, and every month is a struggle to make ends meet. My Social Security payments go directly to rent and bills, and with Social Security recently deducting money for an overpayment fee, things have become even more difficult. Without a stable family support system, especially as a queer parent, I often feel alone in this journey, but I do everything I can to make sure my kids are taken care of.
The majority of the funds raised will go toward covering our rent and utilities, so we can keep a roof over our heads and the lights on. If there is anything left, I hope to bring a little holiday joy to my children with a small tree, some decorations, and at least three gifts for each of them. My son especially needs sensory items like a weighted blanket or vest, which are expensive but would make a big difference for him. Your support would help us get through this tough time and give my kids a holiday to remember.
I know I’m not the only one going through hard times, but I want you to know that whatever you donate will be greatly appreciated. It was very hard for me to write this, as I am used to scraping pennies or going without so my kids are cared for. There’s not much that gives me hope except my children. For them, I am willing to face my fear, swallow my pride, and ask for help. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can give.
