SEE July 19, 2023 UPDATE below update of June 27, 2023
Update 6-27-23 hello everybody thank you so much for your donations and your prayers. Toy is finally out of the hospital but he’s still not out of the woods. He is still not working. He is trying to get medicine. I have medical issues we appreciate whatever you can do at this point tell Toy he has a long road ahead for full recovery. We have to poke that this happens. Thank you so much to everyone again. God bless you all Carolyn Hello my name is Toy Odom I'm from South Carolina I'm currently hospitalized due to a rare life threatening viral infection. On May 20, 2023 I was rushed to the ER, Immediately upon arriving at the emergency room I was sent to the ICU for several days. This infection is actively attacking my organs. It first affected my heart which caused fluid to accumulate around my heart and my heart to beat irregularly. While in the ICU the cardiologist had to do an emergency procedure to remove the fluid surrounding my heart to keep me alive. The treatment was successful. However, the doctor informed me that this virus was starting to slow the blood flow to my other organs, which means my body would be heading towards total organ failure. Now it has started affecting my kidney function and I am currently on my third session of dialysis. The purpose of dialysis is to get my kidneys to function properly. I'm very weak and I get nauseated and it's been very hard for me to hold down food. My creatine levels are high they have been not any lower than a 10 and they should be between one and two. I'm barely urinating and now the medical staff has put a permanent port in my neck for ongoing dialysis.
I've always been a very vibrant, healthy young man I'm 31 and this terrible virus hit me out of the blue. I was a self-employed mobile mechanic, fixing cars is my passion, and I hope to return to it when I am well. I also had a part-time job working security for a hotel prior to my untimely illness. I don't have any sick time available so my income from that job has ceased. In my current condition I’m unable to work and I don't know what my prognosis will be. I have no medical insurance and no other form of income. I normally wouldn't reach out and ask for help because I pride myself on being the person that helps others but in this time of uncertainty I'm worried for what my future is going to hold and how I'm going to pay my mounting bills and future medical treatment. I have a very caring girlfriend and she hasn't been very well either, but she's doing all she can to help me now. I'm hoping that through this GoFundMe some people will help me if they can. I’m a very spiritual person, I believe in God, and I know God is in control of everything. The thought of being on dialysis and also the uncertainty of how I will cover all the expenses can be daunting. I regularly go to a Christian Church and I have several people praying for me. I do believe in the power of prayer and with successful treatment I know I will have a long life ahead of me. With the funds raised here it will help to ease my mind. Please help if you can.
Update 6/4/2023
Thank you to everyone who has helped Toy this far!!! I hope you are all blessed as you have blessed Toy with your generous gifts. ❤️There are no words to express his gratitude. Please share his story with others for continued support. Toy is slowly improving every day, yet still faces new struggles. He has and will continue receiving dialysis treatment 3 times a week. His kidneys are failing. Dialysis treatments are very taxing on his body and often cause him to feel sick. Dialysis brings new struggles and challenges. The hope is that his kidneys will recover and begin to function again. The virus has affected his heart causing atrial fibrillation and other organs as well. His long term prognosis is not a great one, but we have faith the Lord will see him through this in His perfect timing. Please continue to pray for healing.
Toy's mother was rushed to a hospital today for heart problems and will be having quadruple bypass surgery on Tuesday. His father was admitted to the same hospital as well for diabetic wounds on his foot and is trying to avoid amputation and his mother was admitted the same day for heart problems, she's currently scheduled for quadruple bypass. Toy is devastated.
Prayers please and thank you
Update: We are almost at our goal! Toy is out of the hospital, but we are still on the long road to recovery. He still cannot work, but cannot wait to get back eventually. We want to thank everyone that has donated thus far, and will hopefully donate going forward. We ask that everyone just share this link to as many family and friends as they can to help! Thank you for all of the donations, prayers, and more that everyone has sent our way. Toy and I will forever appreciate everyone’s kindness.
