Support Hugo in his journey with cancer

Donation protected
Hello, I’m Jasmin Hugo’s mummy. Hugo is my 2 year old son who was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma in October 2022.  This is cancer of the liver.

On 4th October 2022 he started crying in the night complaining of tummy ache. We took him to the doctors the following day and were told it was probably just a viral infection. Two weeks later he was still complaining his tummy hurt, so I booked another GP appointment. At this appointment the doctor said he could feel Hugo’s liver was enlarged and we were told to go to Broomfield Hospital that evening. After many blood tests, ultrasound, x-ray, MRI and CT scans, we were told he had several lumps in his liver, the biggest measuring at 4cm and that they had referred us to Great Ormond Street Hospital. After a biopsy on 28th October it was confirmed to be hepatoblastoma. We were told it was only affecting his liver and had not spread anywhere else. On 31st October Hugo had his first chemo and we were told he would have it every 2 weeks, but there is a risk to his hearing, heart and kidneys so they have to monitor him for a couple of days after chemo before allowing him to come home.

On the 14th and 15th November hugo has had his second lot of chemo, all going really well. However, on 16th November hugo was unwell with a viral infection, but because his temperature went over 38, he had to be admitted into hospital. We were there for 2 nights and finally home in the 18th November.

Hugo has 2 older brothers who are 6 and 9, who we have to try and find childcare for them whilst taking Hugo to his treatments. Inbetween all of this Hugo’s daddy, Mike is trying to work to keep a roof over our head and food on the table. With the increase of everything in price lately, and the extra travel we are doing and Christmas round the corner, it’s a struggle with money at the moment. Hugo’s birthday is in December, where he is having to have chemo on his birthday this year, as well as his brothers birthday in December also. With all of our outgoings at the moment and trying to make sure we’ve got enough left over for birthday and Christmas presents, it’s a struggle. We’ve created this to help with travel costs, Christmas presents, anything Hugo will need along the way and making everything as ‘normal’ as possible for Hugo’s 2 brothers.
