My name is Demarius, and if you know me you know that my three cats (Toulouse, Mushu, and Winston) are my life. You know I pride myself on being a good cat mom. I love my boys through and through there isn't anything I would not do to ensure that they are taken care of. Unfortunately my outside/inside cat Toulouse, went missing for 24 hours last week. My cat comes home every night and we make sure we take him in. Last week Wednesday he spent the night in an unknown location and did not come home. The next morning I had come home from a morning appointment and was just compelled to look for him outside in our patio, under our furniture and plants. Sure enough he was there, tore up. His face was swollen on one side, his eye was blood shot as if there were popped vessels, his nose and jaw were covered in dry blood, and the worst part was when he tried to breathe or meow his breathing sounded as if he had liquids in his airways. I was home alone and knew I needed to act fast, our normal vet was not able to see him and a recommended vet 'Baldy View' was able to take him in immediately and they understood that it was an emergency for my kitty boy.
As the vet tech takes him back for observation, I wait for the doctor to come in and report his findings. He comes in, only to tell me that my cat is in poor condition, they can't tell what it is that's going on with him. He is so dehydrated they want to get him on IVs immediately and I am then told that they need to do blood work and x-rays, the total of that would be $1,200. With all my cash and care credit I was able to commit to that price. They did let me know that, that price was just to take a look into what it is that is going on.
Later that evening the vet give us a call, updating us on Toulouse and results. He has two fractures on his jaw and they need a specialist to come in and perform surgery, which would in total come out to $5,095. All i could do was cry, because what average American has $5,000 available to them on a random Thursday? Not me..
This is my baby boy, he was a shelter kitty and when I chose to adopt him, I made him a promise that I would take care of him. And that’s all this is for me, I don’t expect everyone to donate but even sharing my cat’s story can help get this out to people who can help with a donation.
I need to bring him back in two weeks after the surgery is complete to ensure that everything is setting in place and for more medical care. I am beyond grateful for my cat to have a chance at life again after the surgery and appreciate any and all help. This was any pet owners worst nightmare, I’m extremely grateful for the Baldy View staff taking care of my sweet boy and giving him the love and tending to under their care.
