Help Tori Save Belle: Urgent Vet Bills
Donation protected
My daughter's dog, Belle, had to undergo surgery on Thursday, 10/10/24. When we got her home that evening, Belle was vomiting a lot. We chalked it up to post op anesthesia stuff. Friday morning, Belle spiked a fever and was still vomiting, even small amounts of water. Tori took Belle back to the local vet, and they did sub q fluids, anti-nausea meds, and something to break her fever. Fri afternoon, she was still febrile and still not holding anything down. We went back to the vet again for diagnostic imaging. Our vet was concerned that Belle may develop GDV, which could be fatal if emergent surgery wasn't preformed. So, she sent us to the Emergency Specialist Vet, Blue Pearl. They performed more diagnostic imaging and more sub q fluids and felt she had developed a "bloat". More oral meds and sent home to continue monitoring. Saturday morning, she is still with a low grade fever and gets to where she is refusing all oral intake, but still vomiting multiple times per hour, I'm very concerned that's she has a bowel obstruction. I called the local ER vet and explained the situation, and they told us to get her back to Blue Pearl ASAP. More in-depth testing is performed, and they diagnose her with a post-operative ileus, a condition where her bowels won't "wake up." They admit her to doggy ICU for continous IV meds and fluids. This morning, we get a call that her bowels still are not moving, and she needs to stay and have repeat imaging tomorrow morning (10/14/24). Tori has already dropped $1100 on visits, and I've contributed $2500 so far.
Tori attends College full time and works after classes and every other weekend. She has no financial assistance to pay for College and pays out of pocket/savings. Anyone who knows me knows I work like a feign. Recently, over the last year, my wife has become disabled and her income has decreased by almost half. Our mortgage has gone up $300/month because of taxes, and we are both paying on surgical hospital bills from multiple surgeries for Vonnie and Tori. I'm doing everything I can, but I have reached the point where I need to ask for help. Right now, we're sitting with a $5000 bill. I'm not in a position to max out every credit card, as I need something for emergencies. I've been working 100-115 hours a pay period to try to stay on top of stuff, but this vet bill is increasing by about $1500/day. This is Tori's first adoption (she rescued Belle 1/1/24.). This is her baby. Belle was a stray for approximately 5 years, was adopted, then left abonded in a house for KCPP to find in Dec 2023. Tori and Belle have formed such a strong bond, I cannot fathom having to put her down because we cannot afford the bill.
If anyone can help, not only will we be enternally grateful, but we promise to pay it forward once we have the ability.
