I’m Tori! Mama, Caregiver, Birth Doula and ROSE Interventionist.
My passion for birthwork began in 2018 after the birth of my son. I completed DONA doula training that summer and I am currently cross-training to certify with HERBAL. I have a heart to nurture and serve. In addition to my caregiving and doula work, I am a Certified ROSE Interventionist and volunteer program facilitator with Hope’s Embrace in Central Kentucky. ROSE is a program that has been shown to prevent Postpartum Depression in low-income mothers by up to 50%.
Through my own experiences and a desire for less stigma around Maternal Mental Health, I am pursuing the goal of becoming a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor (PMH-C). I will earn my certification through Postpartum Support International. The PMH-C is a lifetime certification with continuing education requirements. The Perinatal Mental Health Certification Program creates a structure for professional education and evaluation, and a standardization of training and experience to inform families and payers of perinatal mental health specialists. The certification curriculum requirements build on existing evidence-based perinatal mental health certificate trainings, adding an advanced-training component, a standardized certification exam, and an annual continuing education requirement.
What is the value of becoming certified in perinatal mental health and having PMH-C after my name? Having a true certification program in Perinatal Mental Health, and PMH-C as the universal symbol for specialists, highlights the importance of the field and need for specialists. Here are some examples of additional benefits:
- Listing in PSI's online perinatal mental health provider directory, which is available to the public and used by PSI coordinators and others to make referrals.
- Families can find my services, making the path to care more efficient
- Insurance companies can identify me as a perinatal mental health specialist.
- I will be able to fill a need in a space all too often forgotten and ignored.
If you would like to read more about the Certification Program and curriculum requirements, feel free to check out the information from PSI! https://www.postpartum.net/professionals/certification/
Important notes about this fundraiser:
The total cost will be $1235.
I have set a goal of $1500 to cover additional fees and travel expenses.
I can also accept donations via venmo: @torigambi
or paypal: paypal.me/mamabeartori
Any and all funds raised will go into an account solely for the PMH-C tuition.
If funds raised exceed my goal, all money will stay in that account to be used towards continuing education requirements, annual member fee, books and supplies, and used to further my practice and meet the needs of clients.
This Certification Program will be around a 2-year process.
My most immediate financial goal is $535 raised by the end of August.(THIS GOAL HAS BEEN MET! THANK YOU!)
I will need to pay a $55 annual member fee to PSI.
I will then take the Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Certificate Course. This is my first pre-requisite and my most immediate financial need. I must enroll in the Maternal Mental Health Webinar Course by September 3, 2020.
The total upfront cost needed by that time for this course is $480.
I will then need to take an Advanced Certificate Training that will cost $200 + travel expenses.
After those requirements have been fulfilled I can qualify to take the standardized PMH-C exam. The cost for this exam is $500 + travel expenses.
Upon passing the exam, I will have then earned my title as a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional!
If you have read this far, THANK YOU for taking an interest in my education. By supporting me, you are supporting other mothers and in turn strengthening the families of our community.
