Meet Toph—my 1-year-old, one-eyed, blind kitty. Last September, my friend found her off the street, all bloody and on the brink of death. We discovered her blindness just days after rescuing her off the street, but once she settled into my home, she was able to live and function normally.
As I was on my way to class one day in March, my roommate called to tell me that she was foaming at the mouth and seizing on the ground all of a sudden. I immediately turned around and drove her to the hospital. They'd told me not to worry too much unless the seizures occurred within a 2-week time frame. On May 20, she had another seizure. Since then, Toph has had 7 seizures—the last 2 happening a week apart. The doctors say it's either epilepsy or her brain/spine was damaged, but I wouldn't be able to tell unless she got an MRI scan, which starts at $6000 in my area.
Additionally, the vets recommended enucleating her eye (removal of the eye), which is estimated to cost around $ 1,500. This procedure would help provide relief and prevent infection.
As a first-time pet owner and college student with 2 jobs, I've been able to keep up with her vet visits, prescription costs, and day-to-day expenses, but the costs of the MRI and enucleation are too much for me to handle alone.
Any help at all would mean the world to me and Toph. Thank you for taking the time to read her story :>
