For most people 2020 will go down as one of their worst and most trying years. While we were all hopeful 2021 would bring better things, it has started out quite differently than we had hoped.

Tonya Henson is a single mom and nurse. She ended 2020 with a difficult divorce and a move that stretched her finances to the brink. Two weeks ago, she awoke with excruciating pain and was unable to move or feel her left leg. She was found to have a massive blood clot requiring surgery and a week-long hospital stay. She was readmitted to the hospital within hours of her discharge due to internal bleeding caused by the blood thinners used to treat the clots. This hospitalization was nearly a week long and entailed several blood transfusions as she was having difficulty maintaining a hemoglobin above 7 before being sent home. Tonya was previously independent and working overtime as a nurse to recover from her recent circumstances, however, she is now using a walker and has difficulty walking even a few feet without assistance.

Tonya has a long road for recovery. She recently started a new job and has no vacation, sick time or short-term disability benefits. She will not be able to work for months and when she is able to return, will only be able to do so in a limited capacity. Tonya is wonderful, giving and kind. She is a friend to all that meet her. My goals is to help raise funds for her to meet her monthly expenses for the next two months until she is able to return to work and help to pay for the mountain of medical expenses.  and mountain of medical expenses.
