Tony Pajamas is more than just a cute cat with a silly name. He's got a one-of-a-kind personality and one-of-a-kind medical needs. Tony is FIV+, which leaves him vulnerable to infections due to a weakened immune system. He is currently in need of diagnostic testing and exploratory procedures to treat a chronic, and currently unknown, condition that has persisted for several months.

The cost of Tony's veterinary expenses have always been steep. I am his sole provider and caretaker. As we all well know, being a human is anything but cheap right now, let alone being a cat with an immunodeficiency. I've done my very best over the past 4 years to get Tony the care that he needs and help him to continue living the happy, comfortable life he deserves. These procedures, however, have put me in a situation where I am forced to make some impossible choices between finances and the health and well-being of my cat. Pets are our family, our companions, our friends—Tony is no different. Tony has been with me since I adopted him in August of 2020. I adopted him knowing that he needed a home with someone who understood and loved him beyond his medical needs. Cats with FIV have a harder time being adopted. I took one look at Tony's picture and knew he was my guy. I am also immunosuppressed, prone to illness and infection. I have the immense privilege of health insurance, which helps cover the cost of my own specialty care. Tony doesn't have that privilege, as animals with pre-existing conditions do not qualify for pet insurance.

Many of you may know the challenging year myself and my family have faced. Tony has been a constant through it all, providing comfort and companionship at the end of the some very long and hard days. To think of my boy not being there through it all is unthinkable. We truly get each other in an indescribable way; we are kindred spirits and we deeply rely on each other. To know Tony is to love Tony. Even friends who are self-proclaimed "dog people" have been immediately enamored by his affable and sweet personality.
