8 weeks ago Tommy had a beautiful little girl they named Edie. Below is written in Tommy's usual style.

"Feeling big and brave enough to say something so I'm gonna give it a go.

Shit few weeks obviously. It's the culmination of a shitty few months. We had a good idea there would be issues when Edie was born, we just didn't expect the full range of bullshit that was on the menu.

She has a genetic condition called beckwith-wiedemann syndrome (BWS). It's caused by her having both halfs of chromosome 11 from me, probably because my genes are dominant as fuck. That or a virus or just shit luck.

There are a multitude of issues with the condition, all crazy things that we'd never considered but most of which are managable. She has hyperinsulinism which causes her to gobble sugar like a fiend, her hearing is going to be pretty bad, she has an enlarged tongue and one half of her body is a tiny bit bigger than the other. The only scary bit was the increased risk of childhood cancer caused by BWS being an overgrowth condition. To safeguard against it kids with BWS have regular scans untill they're around 8 where the risk is the same as any other child.

So obviously that was in the back of our minds, we just didn't expect to have to deal with it so soon. Similar cases they've had involved the surgery, followed by 10 days of chemo, then 3 months of weekly chemo. This is obviously shattering when applied to your tiny baby.

This leads me, finally, to some good news. It looks like she may get on to a phase 3 clinical trail looking exclusively at hepatoblastoma in kids. This only involves the operation followed by 2 chemo sessions over 6 weeks which is a vast improvement.

To summarise, Edie will smash cancer into touch because she's a firey yob like her dad. "

Whilst this is devastating news in itself all this happened at the same time the company he worked for went into administration and they cannot pay him.

Both he and Morgan are obviously trying to spend as much time at St Ormond street with Edie but also look after their 3 year old (Vera) and ensure her young life is not interrupted too much.

This has all happened in the build up and during Christmas which has severely impacted any celebrations especially for Vera. They are planning in moving Christmas back a few months when they can get Edie home.

The reason for this page is to help alleviate some of the worries in paying for hotels, etc. But also to help get Vera something for Christmas to make a little girl smile through all the worries.
