UPDATE:
A quick update on a long awaited surgery! Tommy is scheduled for an entire day surgery starting this morning. The surgery involves nerve and muscle transfer from his calve to his upper arm. Please send Tommy your thoughts and prayers! We thank you for your support!
Our sweet Tommy was involved in a near fatal motorcycle accident on the night of October 12, 2023. He died on the operating table for a few seconds but the amazing doctors at LA General Hospital were able to save his life. He was in critical condition and has since stabilized but the right side of his body is badly injured. The main nerves that control motion on his right arm suffered footlong length damages. The nerves on his right wrist were also damaged. Doctors delivered unfortunate news to our family that his right arm may need to be amputated. News was also relayed to Tommy.

Tommy Sey is 23 years old, closely approaching his 24th birthday. Right after high school, he took on physical jobs from long hours of installing solar panels to welding to fixing cars. Tommy is a kinesthetic learner, very good with his hands, creative and a natural craftsman. He is that person who is always volunteering to build furniture, or fix things around the house. He is level-headed, reserved, and very caring, always tending to his family. In his spare time, he enjoys riding his motorcycle or fishing.

Tommy expressed aspirations to become a firefighter and tried so hard until he recently passed the entrance exam. He was so ecstatic! We all are so happy for him. This is something important Tommy felt he was meant to do and was prepared to follow that path for the next coming years.

Sadly, the accident damaged the right side of his body with extreme impact on his right arm. After surgery, doctors said they’re not able to save his right arm. Tommy is devastated and so are we, but he’s a fighter and has pushed through 5 painful surgeries since the night of his accident. He continues to push through every day, but every day that passes is crucial. We ask for your help to seek alternatives that are not covered under his medical insurance. Any donation is deeply appreciated. Tommy needs the appropriate care for his arm from specialists and if there’s a point in the future that his right arm is irreparable and prosthetics is the solution, the funding will also go towards a functional bionic prosthetic arm so that he can continue to pursue his aspirations of becoming a firefighter, and so he can continue to use his hands to help people.

Our family thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re not able to make a donation, please consider sharing this link to get the word out. Please keep Tommy in your thoughts.
