I’m reaching out to ask for your support with something that means an enormous amount to me and to my best friend, Tommy.
Tommy has just celebrated his 40th birthday. What should be an exciting new chapter in his life has instead been turned upside down by devastating news.
A few weeks ago, Tommy found a lump on his tonsil. Following a series of tests, he was diagnosed with cancer.
He is now about to begin an incredibly difficult course of treatment, including six weeks of radiotherapy alongside chemotherapy. The treatment will be invasive, intensive and extremely distressing, and will leave Tommy facing a long and challenging road to recovery.
As if facing a cancer diagnosis wasn’t enough, Tommy and his family have also found themselves in an incredibly difficult situation at home.
Tommy, his partner and their two children have recently moved into a house they have worked extremely hard to make their own. Unfortunately, the house requires extensive renovation and, because of his diagnosis and the treatment he is now facing, Tommy is no longer able to work or carry out the work himself.
At the moment, their home doesn’t have a functioning kitchen or bathroom. Tommy and his partner are sleeping on the floor in their living room, while they try to navigate an unimaginable situation with their two children.
For someone who already struggles with health anxiety, the additional stress of living in an unfinished home while preparing for six weeks of cancer treatment is impossible to put into words.
Tommy is one of the kindest people I know. He has a beautiful family, a huge heart, and he is the sort of person who would do absolutely anything for the people around him. He would never ask for help himself, which is why I’m asking on his behalf.
I want to raise enough money to help Tommy and his family complete the essential work on their home, to give them a safe, warm and functioning place to live while Tommy concentrates on the most important thing of all… getting through his treatment and getting better.
We can’t take away the cancer diagnosis. We can’t make the treatment easier. But together, we can take away some of the financial and practical stress surrounding it.
We can give Tommy, his partner and their children a home they can finally feel safe and settled in. A place where they can focus on each other, rather than worrying about where they will cook, wash, sleep or how they will afford to finish the work.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a genuine difference. And if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser could help us reach someone who can.
Tommy has spent so much of his life looking after the people around him. Now I’m hoping we can come together and look after him and his family.
Let’s give Tommy one less thing to worry about during the hardest time of his life, and give him the best possible chance to focus on beating cancer.
Thank you for reading, sharing, donating, and supporting my best friend. It truly means more than I can put into words.
