Tommy was once a vibrant, athletic, creative teenager with a bright future ahead of him.
At just 16 years old, everything changed.
What no one knew at the time was that Tommy had suffered a traumatic brain injury from a surfing accident—an invisible injury that would quietly alter the course of his life forever. Over the years, Tommy’s life has been marked by challenges that many of us can’t fully imagine: cycles of instability, struggles with mental health, encounters with the legal system, and periods of homelessness.
For decades, his family has searched for answers, trying everything they could to help him find his footing again. Today, Tommy is still fighting.
Why We Are Asking for Help
Tommy’s elderly parents, Tom and Debbie—now nearly in their 80s—have been doing everything they can to support him. They are currently paying for hotel rooms just to keep him off the street, even though they can’t afford it.
This is not sustainable.
Tommy needs something he has never truly had in his adult life: consistent, stable housing without pressure to perform or “fix” himself. He also needs financial support for ongoing legal matters so he can begin to clear barriers that have kept him stuck.
What Tommy Needs
- Safe housing for at least 2 years
- Legal support
- Basic living support (food, transportation, essentials)
Why Stability Matters
For many people, progress is expected—get a job, move forward, be independent. But for some, stability itself is the goal.
When someone has lived for decades in survival mode—navigating brain injury, mental health challenges, and systemic barriers—healing doesn’t come from pressure. It comes from safety.
Tommy has never been given the opportunity to simply be supported long enough to find his own rhythm. This is what we hope to change.
A Family’s Love—and Limits
Tommy’s parents, Tom and Debbie, have spent a lifetime loving and advocating for him. They have carried an enormous emotional and financial burden for decades. Now, as they age, they can’t continue to do this alone. We are asking for help—not just for Tommy, but for the family who has never stopped standing by him.
How Funds Will Be Used
Funds from this campaign will cover housing, legal fees, basic living support, and stability & emergency support for Tommy.
Another Way to Help
Tommy’s mother, Debbie, has written a book titled “Where’s Tommy: A Mother’s Journey Through Her Son’s Traumatic Brain Injury.” The book shares their family’s deeply personal journey navigating traumatic brain injury, mental health challenges, and the long road of trying to find support. Purchasing the book and leaving a review is another meaningful way to support Tommy and his family. A percentage of book sales also benefits related charities working in brain injury and mental health support, helping others facing similar challenges.

In Closing
Tommy’s story is not just about struggle.
It’s about endurance, love, and the possibility that with the right support, it’s never too late for a different chapter.
Thank you for being part of that possibility.
