Help Tommey Care for His Dad

It’s never easy to ask for money, even for someone else, but our friend, Tommey, has run out of options. He has cared for his 89 year old dad since his stroke in early 2019. Dad now needs 24/7 care and Tommey has been caring for his dad 5 days a week for several months and will continue to do so into the indefinite future. After exhausting all other forms of income (unemployment, Paid Family Medical Leave and Covid era income supports), he is in the process of becoming his dad’s full time, paid caregiver through MassHealth’s PCA program. This has taken 2 months as of March 1 and could take a couple more, according to MassHealth. Tommey has not received a penny from any source since the end of December and the money he has earned is gone; the program will not pay him retroactively. Now his savings are depleted, his credit card maxed out and bills are due. What remains of his business, Artists-at-Large, is in storage and in danger of being sold off for back rent if he cannot pay the next month’s rent. He needs at least $10,000 to pay off outstanding bills (all incurred in 2022 since his income ended) and to survive until MassHealth can get him on the payroll. Tommey’s friends and coworkers know how hard this has been for him; he is far more comfortable being a supporter, personally and through his work with AaL, than needing support himself. We, the undersigned, have committed to donating to this Go Fund Me campaign and we hope that those who know Tommey, have had their lives enriched by his creative programming through AaL or just want to show support for a hardworking and deserving soul will join us.
