GoFundMe: Help Toming Fight ALS
We've started a GoFundMe for our dear friend Toming (Tom) Wong. This past February, Toming was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a progressive nervous system disease which destroys the nerve cells that control the muscles which are responsible for controlling movement, swallowing and breathing. Currently there is no effective treatment and no cure for this disease. Every individual's experience with ALS is different but the average lifespan from diagnosis is two to five years.
The disease is progressing quickly for Toming who started to experience symptoms as recently as this past December. He has lost much function in his hands, mobility in his legs is deteriorating and he is having difficulty with his speech. Along with this diagnosis comes the significant financial burden of ongoing medical expenses and loss of income as Toming, who is the primary source of income, is no longer able to work. Toming will eventually require a wheelchair, an accessible vehicle, renovations to their home that include a handicap accessible bathroom, chair lift and ramp, so that he can continue to live there.
As you can imagine, this disease has changed the lives of Toming and his family. Those of you who know Toming and Sandra know that their whole world revolves around their three girls. Toming and Sandra's greatest hope is that they can continue to provide love and stability for their family during this challenging time. By establishing the GoFundMe site, our goal is to relieve some of the financial burden that comes along with this disease.
Toming is a fighter - always has been - and your generosity will help the Wong family as they adjust to their new normal. We would like to thank you in advance for your support. Please keep them in your prayers and good thoughts.
On behalf of Toming, Sandra, Ashley, Lauren, Jenna & and those that love them, our sincerest thank you.
Hope anchors the soul.
