My name is Tomi Jo, and I’m an indie cinematographer and photojournalist. I lost my home in Oklahoma to a tornado, which pushed me to move to Seattle in hopes of starting a new life. The transition has been incredibly difficult, and I’ve struggled to find steady work in Washington. As a transwoman, I’ve faced additional challenges like being assaulted and hospitalized for simply existing which has caused additional health problems.
Things took a turn for the worse when I collapsed at my job due to a medical emergency due to the brain injury I sustained when I was assaulted, and was rushed to the ER. Unfortunately, I lost my job as a result, and since then, I’ve been unable to catch up on rent and bills. Now, I’m facing eviction and the very real possibility of homelessness. I’m actively searching for work and resources, but I’m running out of time and options.
I’m reaching out for help because I truly need it. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward paying off my rent so that my dog, Goliath, and I can stay housed and safe. I’m deeply grateful for any support, and while it’s extremely hard to ask for help, I want to thank you for reading my story and considering a donation. Your kindness would mean the world to me right now. If you know of any jobs hiring immediately in Seattle, I would be forever grateful.
Thank you.
