Tomeka is a Certified Nursing Assistant that works in a memory care unit in her community. For over 14 years, she has taken care of people who are physically or mentally unable to care for themselves. She lives in the community she serves.

In February, she was in her home when the basement of the home caved in. This caused her house to shift and become structurally unsafe. Tomeka cannot move to another location. There is a mortgage on the property that she pays on. Average rent in the area is more than her mortgage payment. Besides that, Tomeka loves her home and has many good memories there. Fortunately she has friends that are willing to share their space with her, but this is not a long term solution. The goal is for Tomeka to go back home.

Tomeka contacted her insurance company, and they denied the claim, stating that earth movement is not covered under her policy. She has reached out to the Red Cross, and they referred her to Crossroads United Way. They told her that they could not assist. The city explained that there was nothing they could do because funds are tied up federally. Habitat for Humanity could not assist because they do not do that kind of construction. These are all great organizations, but unfortunately, none could help her, and that is why we have turned to the public. Work to fix Tomeka's home cannot start until a down payment is made. That is the goal of this fundraiser. Please help Tomeka be able to fix her house so she can go home.
