Tomas is a dear friend and has been my personal caterer for years. He’s the kind of person who always puts others first, even when facing his own challenges. For a long time, Tomas has struggled with heart problems and constant back pain, but he kept working and supporting those around him. This past year, everything changed. Tomas was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and at the same time, his restaurant failed. To make matters worse, his partner became disabled due to untreated diabetes.

Because Tomas works in the restaurant industry, he had to rely on the ACA for health insurance. Unfortunately, his policy didn’t cover his cancer treatment, so he was forced to stop chemotherapy. He found a new job an hour from home that offered health insurance, but soon after, he collapsed at work. Doctors discovered he had suffered a stroke, and they also found an aortic aneurysm, a stomach aneurysm, bronchitis, acute sinusitis, and blockages in his carotid artery and arteries in the back of his neck.

Tomas is now swimming in debt, and the stress is making his health even worse. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward his medical bills and give him the chance to take time off work to focus on recovery.
