Help Tomás Battle a Mysterious, Life-Changing Disease!

Hello! We’re Silvia and Emilio, and this is our beautiful boy, Tomás. Tough he’s just one year old, his journey has been filled with more challenges than most of us could imagine.
Tomás was born with a rare, undiagnosed neuro-metabolic condition tied to a genetic disorder. This has caused him immense struggles: seizures, trouble breathing, and hospitalizations that have landed him in the ICU multiple times. Despite everything, Tomás keeps fighting with the strength of an african lion.
From birth, Tomás was tiny, with low weight, severe muscle weakness (hypotonia), and elevated lactic acid in his blood. At just a few weeks old, he battled life-threatening enterocolitis in the ICU. By four months, he began having seizures—infantile spasms that worsened despite medication. These seizures make daily life a battle, as Tomás still can’t hold up his head, crawl or speak. Yet, with the help of a team of specialists, we haven’t given up hope that one day he might.
Right now, Tomás is back in the ICU, fighting another bout of severe lactic acidosis, which has affected his breathing. His condition is critical and potentially life-threatening.
As his parents, watching Tomás endure pain and limitations while missing out on a typical childhood has been terribly heartbreaking. But we believe his life has a purpose beyond this suffering. We’ve dedicated ourselves to finding him the best care, consulting with numerous doctors. Yet, in Ecuador, the resources for rare and complex cases like his are very limited, to say the least. To truly help him, we’ll need to take him abroad to a specialized children’s hospital where he might finally receive a diagnosis and a clear treatment plan. This journey, however, is financially overwhelming, with the need to cover international medical care, insurance, flights, lodging, tests, and treatments. We also want to prepare for the road ahead, knowing he will need ongoing care for an unknown time.
We don’t yet know what the future holds for Tomás, but we are determined to giving him the best quality of life possible. If you are able to contribute to his journey, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us, even a little donation can make a difference for him.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping us keep hope alive for Tomás.
