My name is Amanda and I work at a hotel in Kissimmee, FL, and there’s a 68 year-old man name Tomaides Perez in our housekeeping department who really needs help. He’s been with us for a couple years and is now dealing with serious lung issues. Sometimes he has to stop working just to hook up his oxygen machine so he can breathe.

Despite everything he’s going through, he remains willing and determined to work. He’s been encouraged many times to apply for SSA, but he fears that without the ability to work, his sense of purpose and mental well-being would decline. While he continues to push himself forward, we’re watching his health decline right in front of us.

He’s struggling to keep up with bills and everyday expenses, and he still sends what he can back to his family in Venezuela. He’s like my work grandpa, and it breaks my heart that I can’t help him the way he deserves.
