Help Tom Weeden recover and get fit for Isle of Man TT 2026

Tom Weeden, the Senior ManxGP winner in 2016 and TT rider since 2017, needs your help to get back where he belongs. My partner and I restore classic Suzukis. , we first met Tom at the Isle of Man in 2017 when he was competing in his first TT. Since then, we have been part of Team Weeden and he has ridden our bikes at the Classic TT and the Olivers Mount Classic Superbike races on our restored Suzuki motorbikes taking, the Classic SuperBike championship at Olivers Mount in both 2023 and 2024.
Tom suffered a freak accident which resulted in several severe injuries. Prior to the crash, despite a limited and difficult pre-season testing, his TT had been going well and he had recorded personal best laptimes on the Superbike and the Supertwin. His earlier qualifying times had him 9th in the Supertwin class at that point. He looked set to achieve his best TT finishes but then it all went wrong.
Riding his Supertwin (Aprilia RS660) in Friday’s Qualifying session at this years TT, on the Isle of Man, Tom clipped a wall at Glen Helen. Unfortunately, the handlebar bent and the throttle was subsequently jammed wide open, sending both Tom and the bike into an uncontrollable wheelie and straight towards a wall further down the road. Tom’s memory of the crash is understandably hazy, but a spectator has made available his video footage of the ensuing spectacular crash where Tom followed his bike into a wall.
Tom hit the barriers feet first. The result: a smashed right ankle- an open wound where his bone came through the leather of the boot, breaks to the left tibia and fibular bones, a T12 vertebral break, a metatarsal fracture and at least one broken rib as well as abrasions and bruises to body and face. He was initially treated at the roadside then airlifted to Nobles Hospital in Douglas on the Isle of Man. There his injuries were stabilised before being flown to Aintree a few days later for further surgery. The time since the crash has been particularly painful but his left leg is now in plaster and his right ankle has been reconstructed by one of the UK’s top ankle surgeons.
Now he needs your help. Tom lives for road racing and wants to be back to riding fitness and return to the TT for 2026. Full recovery is expected to take several months; he will be in a wheelchair and needing assistance for some time. Fortunately, Tom has the support network of his family and the Club 77 supporters. He does have a basic insurance cover for loss of earnings but it is minimal and won’t extend to the costs of the specialist rehabilitation therapies which have been recommended to give the best chance of getting back full strength and mobility and to minimise any long term damage. These include:
• Oxygen Therapy: to accelerate healing
• Red Light Therapy: to support ligament, tendon and other soft tissue repair and reduce inflammation.
• Intensive Sports Physiotherapy and rehabilitation: to rebuild strength, flexibility and function.
• Supplements and Peptides: to reduce inflammation, support tissue repair and bone healing and prevent muscle atrophy
These treatments are not provided generally on the NHS and they come at significant cost. Every penny donated will go directly towards paying for the rehabilitation. Any extra will be used to repair his Aprilia Supertwin.
Those that know of Tom already know that he will be doing his utmost to get back to the sport he loves and in record time. His goal is to get fit, get the bike fully tested by the end of 2025 and to compete in the Isle of Man TT 2026. Tom had been hoping to return to his beloved Oliver’s Mount this year for the 3 planned meetings and defend his Classic SuperBike championship title. Tom won this is 2023 and 2024 riding our Suzuki SRAD 750 and we were looking forward to him doing it again – this will have to wait now for its rider’s return in 2026.
We would be grateful, and I know Tom would be, if you can help with his recovery. It’s a long road back and your help can make the difference getting him back where he needs to be. Make sure to come find us at TT 2026 where I’m sure Tom will be able to thank you in person and tell you the tales of this past week and the months of recovery
