Help Tom Valente
Donation protected
Tom Valente, former cycling professional, pillar of the San Diego cycling community, and one of the nicest guys in the peloton was involved in a very high speed crash last Wednesday (1/26/22) on the Camp Pendleton “Wednesday Worlds” ride. Thankfully only one other person went down in the crash when they could not avoid Tom’s bike and was not seriously injured.
We aren’t exactly sure what happened and if anyone can provide info that would really help Tom. He doesn’t remember anything about the crash (email the organizer).
Tom was knocked unconscious and it was very obvious he was seriously injured. He was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Orange County and remains there with multiple injuries - many broken ribs, clavicle, hip and a punctured lung. He had surgery to repair the punctured lung and to stabilize his ribs. He will likely be transitioned to a rehab facility in the next few days to begin the healing process. This will be a bit of a road to recovery.
One of the best parts about our cycling community is that we are a tight knit group and always come together to help our fellow cycling friends when needed. To that end, we ask if you might consider a donation to help reduce the out of pocket costs of Tom’s medical and rehabilitation treatment and to assist in the replacement of his brand new bike that was totaled in the accident. We know Tom is in a lot of pain right now and it will be a while before he recovers and can be back out on his bike to enjoy the sport he loves so much. Anything you can give to help to reduce the financial burden of this accident so that Tom can focus solely on his recovery would be greatly appreciated. Thank you - let’s always take care of each other!
