Help Veteran, Tom Sayles, Recover from Hit-and-Run

Dad has had some set backs. His facial paralysis has worsened and some of his other brain injury symptoms have worsened. Hoping the swelling will go down soon and for the brain bleeds to start improving. They are currently stable, so Ill take that as a win. Looking into acute care rehabilitation facilitations. please keep the prayers coming.

Hi I am Tom Sayles' daughter, Chelsea. My dad was the victim of a hit and run at a gas station in Council Bluffs, IA on the evening of July 9th. He was walking from the pump to the store when a Black Tahoe ran him down. He was pushed approximately 8 feet. The Tahoe reversed and left. Luckily some witnesses followed after the Tahoe until police could catch up and obtain contact information for those in the vehicle, pending charges. Some additional amazing witnesses flagged down an Officer and medics arrived promptly.

My father was unconscious and suffered a number of injuries including multiple intracranial bleeds, fractured skull, bruised bowel, nerve damage/partial paralysis in his face, a number of cuts, bruises, etc. He is currently still in the hospital. He has a long road ahead due to the injuries.

We do not know yet if the people who hit him have insurance and even if they do, we all know insurance only covers so much and he is already incurring a lot of expenses. The odds are, my dad will eventually be transferred to a rehabilitation center before he can go home. If released to go home, it will be with 24 hour care/supervision and rehabilitative services. We also do not know yet what modifications we may need to make at his home for him while he heals.

I was hesitant to create this gofundme as most people are hurting financially but given the number of people who have reached out and asked about one, I agreed it is a good idea.

My father is a veteran and is retired, living only off of his minimal social security. Despite that, he would give everything he has to help others.
