Help Tom Sawyers Get a Life-Saving Liver Transplant
Donation protected
Hi, we’re fundraising for our dad, Tom Sawyers. He’s been battling a rare autoimmune liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) for the past six years. There’s no cure, and PSC eventually leads to liver failure or cancer. His doctors have now said it’s time for a life-saving liver transplant, before it’s too late.
The challenge? Because his symptoms aren’t considered severe enough under the transplant system, he likely won’t receive a deceased donor liver in time. That means our only option is to find a living donor. Someone between 18 and 55 with blood type O who is willing to donate a portion of their liver.
Get more information on liver donation here.
This journey is costly, with regular travel to D.C., medication, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and 4-8 weeks of potential lost wages for the donor and caregivers of both the donor and Tom.
We’re raising funds to help cover Tom & the potential donor for:
- Medical and recovery expenses
- Travel and lodging for transplant appointments & checkups
- Lost wages during recovery (Wife/Caregivers)
- Donor support and expenses
- Donor lost wages
- Medications and monitoring for both
Who is Tom?
You might know Tom from his years working at the prison, growing up in Westernport, from the sidelines at Frankfort High School sports, at church, through hunting circles, or beekeeping meetups. However you know him, you know he’s one of the good ones. Quietly showing up, helping out, and not asking for much in return. Now, he needs a bit of our help.
He’s worked hard his whole life and he’s about to retire from his job at NBCI. He keeps bees, figures out how fix just about anything, gives you just the right amount of a hard time to keep you motivated, and he dreams of going on another elk hunting trip in Colorado. He’s a proud dad & step-father of four and pappy to six and he’s got more to teach them, more memories to make, and more life to live.
If you can donate, share, or even consider being tested as a potential donor, it would mean the world to us.
Thank you for your kindness!
Quick note: GoFundMe may prompt you to leave a “tip” at checkout. That goes to the platform, not to Tom or our family. You can adjust the tip amount to $0 or whatever you feel comfortable with. Every bit of your donation helps, and we’re so grateful for your support.
