Help Tom Recover from Life-Saving Surgery

Please help support our dad’s open-heart surgery and recovery ❤️‍

Tom’s Story:
Tom is 59 years young—a loving husband, father, and proud new grandfather. For over a decade, he has been living with a cardiac condition, carefully monitored by his doctors. This past October, he received devastating news: his mitral valve regurgitation had reached the severe stage. Without treatment, his heart would continue to work harder than it should, eventually leading to heart failure.

After consulting with a cardiothoracic surgeon, Tom was told he urgently needed open-heart surgery. The news was a shock, as it would be for anyone. Even more stressful, Tom is the primary provider for his family, and his insurance won’t fully cover the costs of this major surgery. Adding to the strain, he faces months of lost income during recovery, putting his family at risk of severe financial hardship.

Tom initially delayed the surgery, worried about how his family would manage. But as his symptoms worsened, it became clear that waiting was no longer an option. Now, just days away from surgery, he’s facing not only the physical and emotional toll of open-heart surgery but also the overwhelming burden of medical bills, mortgage payments, and daily expenses.

Tom has been a dedicated employee at the same automotive dealership for over 33 years. Sadly, he doesn’t have short- or long-term disability coverage. While he carried Aflac insurance for many years, his employer discontinued it in 2024, and the critical care insurance he replaced it with doesn’t cover his condition. Despite saving up all his vacation days to cover the initial days post-op, Tom’s recovery—expected to last 4 to 12 weeks—will make it nearly impossible to keep up with household bills, co-pays, medications, and the extensive cardiac rehabilitation ahead.

Tom has always been the first to lend a helping hand and the last to ask for help himself. He is a selfless, hardworking man who has always prioritized his family and community. As his surgery date approaches (Friday, January 17, 2025), I want to help ease at least one burden—financial stress—so he can focus on healing and recovery.

Any donation, big or small, will make a world of difference in helping Tom and his family through this difficult time.
