Tom, my brother, has always been the kind of person who would help anyone in need. Nearly two years ago, his life changed dramatically when he was diagnosed with kidney disease. Since then, he’s been undergoing dialysis three times a week, a grueling routine that made it increasingly difficult for him to keep working. Despite his determination, Tom had to stop working in August, and while he’s qualified for disability, his benefits won’t begin until March.

Just last week, Tom received the incredible news that he will receive a kidney from a living donor, with the transplant scheduled for December 17. This moment brought hope to our family, but it also came with unexpected challenges. During his pre-surgery tests, Tom learned that his insurance was not properly set up, and now he must pay a significant amount before the surgery can proceed. On top of that, he needs help covering insurance premiums, medical bills, and living expenses through his recovery until his disability payments begin.
