Preventing Tom from Drowning In Financial Debt While the Wheels of Bureaucracy Turn Excessively Slowly
Tom Standish (from the Eastern Townships, Quebec, Canada) urgently needs our help for a short time to keep his head above water financially. It is a one-time contribution needed to help him and his wife make it through the (non-payable) waiting period.
Tom is a relatively young man (57) who, within a year, has gone from living a meaningful life and holding a good job, to facing two life threatening, and in one case very rare heart-related illnesses (AL AMYLOIDOSIS AND CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE). His health has deteriorated rapidly leaving him unable to do even the simplest things, and definitely too weak to work.
On doctor’s orders he has been unemployed since April 24th. Unemployment benefits ran out some time ago. The application for disability support was fully filled out and filed. Financial aid, to which they agree is due him, will not come into effect for a while yet. Because of the rarity of one aspect of his disease, AL AMYLOIDOSIS, he has gone through a very protracted, stressful process in search of a definitive diagnosis. Of course this delayed the approval of his application.
In the meantime, not only is their income reduced to what his wife earns, with their savings depleted, but the bills keep coming in, and of course there are the additional costs related to frequent and lengthy hospital stays. The gas and parking alone for his wife to visit him represent a substantial amount. What does one do while waiting for bureaucracy to finally provide much-deserved financial assistance?
You turn to the kindness and generosity of friends and even strangers to help you get to the other side of this.
Your name will only appear if you want it to. Sometimes it encourages others to know that you have made a donation, but it is up to you. Any amount is welcome.
Three thousand dollars is not a lot of money but it will make a huge difference to Tom and will bring peace of mind. When facing such a devastating diagnosis, one should not have to stress about money as well – we live in Canada after all.
