Toki is our beloved cat and a cherished member of our family. I’ve worked as a Veterinary Assistant for 16 years and am currently in school full-time to become a Registered Veterinary Technician, so I know how quickly things can change with our pets’ health. When Toki suddenly stopped eating and developed a painful abdomen, I feared the worst. After rushing him to the ER, the first round of radiographs showed a possible mass in his abdomen, and an ultrasound revealed severe kidney abnormalities. The ultrasonographer suspected a ruptured ureter, which was causing urine to leak around his right kidney, and also found a stone in the left kidney. The treatment plan is to hospitalize Toki with a urinary catheter, IV fluids, and medications. The surgeon wants Toki to be hospitalized to attempt to improve his kidney values before moving forward with surgery. He may also need a chest tube to drain fluid and a feeding tube if he doesn’t start eating on his own. The ER team is consulting with a surgeon to determine if surgery to remove the right kidney is possible and if his left kidney can handle the extra work. All of this is happening while we’re still making payments on our older cat’s bill after losing them in October, and our dog has been dealing with recurring ear hematomas that have required multiple procedures. We’re truly overwhelmed by veterinary bills on top of our regular expenses and rent. Our pets are our world, and their health is always our top priority. Anything donated will go directly to Toki’s hospitalization, surgery, and any aftercare he needs. Our family appreciates and thanks anybody and everybody willing to help. It’s been a very tough year for us and our kids, and we’re really hoping that Toki can recover from all of this and we can move on with him still here. Your kindness and support mean everything to us right now.
