Donate now to help Token walk again.
Token is a playful and happy Samoyed and, like all dog owners know, a member of the family. He brings so much joy to us and everyone he encounters. On November 1st, Token was inexplicably and suddenly unable to use his back legs, coupled with extreme pain when touched on his lower back.
My mother and I rushed him to the vet to discover that he was paralyzed in his latter half as a result of a slipped disc (IVDD). The vet recommended a spinal surgery and prescribed pain meds while Token awaited further testing and treatment. The relief from knowing he did not have a terminal illness was quickly doused by the haunting notion that his quality of life may be drastically altered for the rest of his life.
Token's paralysis is such that he cannot poo or pee. I've taken him to the vet several times to have his urine extracted through a catheter (which he, needless to say, doesn't appreciate). The MRI visit revealed an irregular heartbeat and an appointment with a cardiologist pre-MRI. The various expenses are piling up faster than we can keep up with. All in all, the vet estimated $10,000 in medical, surgical, and rehabilitation expenses by the time all is said and done. Needless to say, this has been an exceptionally hard time for the family. It is devastating to see our normally happy little pup in pain and unable to play, go on walks or pee/poo. He's been generally disinterested in food and uncharacteristically lethargic.
I have been very reluctant to do this, but many of those close to Token and I have encouraged me to reach out and seek help from the kindness of strangers. We had a doggy fund for Token, but that was quickly depleted between the pain meds and the MRI. Upon hearing the news, my sister immediately flew back from across the country to be with Token and lend a hand in making sure he stays immobile, comfortable, fed, supervised, and does not do anything to worsen his condition while we await the surgery date.
I am humbly and abjectly asking for anything you can spare to help us get the best care possible for our beloved family member. I am starting this campaign in the hopes that family, friends and fans can assist with the financial cost and contribute to Token's speedy recovery and get him walking, running, being happy, and brightening people's lives again.
Words cannot express my gratitude for anything you are able to donate. Anything we collect that is above the cost of treatment will be happily donated back to another charity. We just want to get Token healed up, enjoying life, and smiling again. Please send your love to our smiley bear!
