My name is Janessa, and I run a dog shelter in the rural village of Togiak, Alaska. When I first moved here four years ago, I was heartbroken to see so many dogs wandering the streets. The city would hold cullings a couple of times a year, offering payment for each dog that was shot. I knew I had to do something to stop this and give these dogs the chance at life they deserve.
Over the years, I’ve worked hard to rescue as many dogs as possible, finding them loving homes and providing them with shelter, food, and care. Unfortunately, the number of loose dogs has increased again, and the city has resumed cullings. Thankfully, the city allows me to intervene and save dogs from being euthanized if I can send them to organizations that will rescue and adopt them out. But the challenges are immense—planes are small or scarce, making it difficult to send out large dogs or multiple dogs at a time, and getting supplies like dog houses and straw is a constant struggle.
I am reaching out for help because I need to raise funds to charter a plane to bring in much-needed supplies and transport dogs to Anchorage, where they have a chance at a better life. I also need support to keep the shelter running, pay helpers, and cover emergency expenses. I’ve been using my personal money, but it’s running out. Your support will help me continue this lifesaving work and give these sweet babies the future they deserve. Please consider donating and sharing our story—every bit of help makes a difference.
