Help Tofu & Mochi: Abandoned, Disabled Puppies Fighting for a Second Chance
Rescued from a parking lot. Rejected by a backyard “breeder”. Partially blind, deaf, and still full of love.
Hi, my name is Nick. A few days ago, two tiny puppies were handed to me in a parking lot in Massapequa by someone trying to sell off a litter.
These two — Tofu and Mochi — were the ones they couldn’t sell.
Why?
Because they were the runts.
Because they were partially blind and deaf.
Because they “didn’t think anyone would want them.”
If you’re able to donate even $5, you’re changing their life.
They were trying to profit off the rest of the litter, but saw these two as throwaways.
I still don’t know what happened to the others — and that breaks my heart — but I couldn’t let these two suffer the same fate.
With nowhere else to take them, I brought them into the back of our ice cream shop, Swirls & Twirls in Massapequa. I was scared. I had no idea what to do.
But I knew I couldn’t walk away or toss them in a shelter
I called everyone I could. My family came to help. We bought a kennel, cage, playpen, high-quality puppy food, and everything else we could to start giving them the life they deserved.
We’ve been fostering them ever since, determined to keep them from ending up in the shelter like their mom — who was dumped at NYC ACC like trash.
Their Medical Condition:
Tofu and Mochi are double Merle puppies, a genetic mutation from irresponsible breeding. They’re both partially blind and deaf. They also face higher risks of:
• Immune system problems
• Digestive issues (they had terrible diarrhea after being fed adult food)
• Hearing and vision decline
• Lifelong medical complications
Thanks to urgent vet care and the right nutrition, they’re now stable — but they still need ongoing testing, treatment, and support.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Until now, I’ve been covering all costs personally. But these babies need:
• Genetic testing
• Specialized bloodwork
• Eye medication and ongoing vision care
• Specialized training support for deaf/blind puppies
• Continued treatment for deworming and GI support
• Supplies for comfort, growth, and stimulation
Every single dollar will go to Tofu & Mochi’s care. But there will be a portion that will be donated to the rescue that’s helping find people to adopt them. They promised to find them the perfect home.
If I continue fostering them long-term, all funds will be used directly for them through me.
If they’re adopted, the money will either cover their medical needs before they leave or be given to their new family to continue their treatment.
No matter what, 100% of your donation goes to Tofu and Mochi.
They Weren’t Wanted — But They Matter.
These puppies were discarded. Handed out like freebies.
But they are sweet. Gentle. Resilient. Loving.
They didn’t ask to be born into this. But they are here, and they deserve better.
They are not broken. They are just different — and they need a community to help them thrive.
✨How You Can Help
If you’re able to donate even $5, you’re changing their life.
If you can’t give right now, please consider sharing this link to help us reach others.
From the bottom of my heart — and from two tiny, brave pups who just want a chance — thank you.
Let’s show Tofu and Mochi that they were never disposable. Let’s show them they were meant to be loved.
With gratitude,
Nick (Foster Dad & Ice Cream Shop Co-Owner)
