Last Saturday night I was assaulted by a security guard at Ground Zero.

The guard threw me to the ground and both of my knees, my jaw, and my chin were injured. I filed a police report for the assault and had to be seen in the emergency room the next day. Scans were taken of my chin and luckily it is not broken. It is however, very badly bruised. I have spent this week not being able to fully open my mouth and barely being able to eat. I missed almost a whole week of work due to not being able to speak well without pain.

I want accountability from Ground Zero and immediate termination of the security guard that was working that night. There was no reason for him to throw me on ground. We were not hostile, loud, or rude. Assaulting customers is never acceptable in any establishment.

I am asking for support in this time. Both emotional and monetary. I have had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I was assaulted. It’s hard for me to write this, but I know that staying silent would be worse. I want to work on healing and speaking my truth is apart of that. I also need help with my medical bills and making up money since I couldn’t work this week.

Back Story:

A friend and I went out to Ground Zero together. It was my first time there and only her second. (It is important to note that it is a Goth club and we were the only Black people in there). We had a great time and stayed until bar closed.

As we were leaving, my friend realized that she was missing her phone, so we went and talked to the staff who instructed us to wait at the bar as they looked into it. While we were waiting at the bar we were approached by their security guard who aggressively shouted at us that we need to leave. We explained that we were told to wait at the bar for my friend’s phone. The security guard then became extremely aggressive and threw me to the ground.
