Help Todd Walk Again

Many of us have known Todd Johnson for years, and in some cases decades. He is a man of character and integrity. In addition, Todd is truly “a man for others,” to quote a great Christian belief. Through his dedication to others as a friend, mentor, business leader and family man, Todd has touched the lives of countless people.
He is an inspiration to us all.
Let us share their story with you and ask for your prayers during this difficult time as well as financial assistance.
On July 25, 2020 during the COVID pandemic, Todd was at a family barbecue when he sustained a minor knee injury. The pain increased for the next 3 days so Todd went to the ER for an x-ray. He needed an MRI, however, due to COVID, he was not considered a priority and was told several times over the next week to “wait”.
That "wait" proved to be almost fatal. His pain increased, and only later did we learn that he was suffering from a deadly staph infection. On August 4, exactly one week after his x-ray, Todd was rushed by ambulance to the ER. He was close to death and was now septic with the staph infection raging through his body. Todd was admitted to the hospital that day and that is where he spent the next 6 weeks, 4 weeks of which were in the ICU. He was sedated and on a ventilator (induced coma), for 27 days.
When he was brought out of the coma, he had impaired speech and the only thing he could move was his head. To make matters worse and to our surprise, Todd suffered a bilateral pontine stroke while sedated. It is a miracle that Todd survived! With stroke patients, the weeks and months following the stroke are critical; patients need various forms of acute therapy, daily. Ideally, those therapies should be aggressively administered.
In Todd’s case, therapy is needed to get him to walk, talk and gain full neurological functions again.
Over the past 7 months, Todd has been in 3 different facilities since being discharged from the hospital on September 15. Luann has been working diligently to plot a path to recovery which includes finding appropriate care as well as acute therapies.
It has been a struggle working within the boundaries of the existing medical/insurance industries because they have failed to understand something, that WE all know; And that is that Todd is a fighter and if anyone has a chance to recover from a stroke, it is Todd.
Todd needs critical therapy and the insurance only provides for 100 days. Todd will need acute care for longer than his insurance provides. Some estimates are up to a year or even two. We estimate the costs will be $20,000-$30,000 per month for the next couple of years.
Todd, Luann, and their three daughters have been through a tragic ordeal these last several months. Each of us can show our support and chip in to help Todd, Luann and their daughters get through this. Every penny is appreciated and will be used for Todd’s on-going care.
