Dear friends, family, and supporters,
As many of you know, our son Maddox Ayres has faced extraordinary challenges in his 5 years of life. Diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, West Syndrome, Refractory Epilepsy, and Autism, Maddox has shown incredible strength and resilience.
Maddox’s journey has been difficult, especially in his early years, when we spent countless days in hospitals, enduring tests and treatments to manage his seizures. After many setbacks, he underwent a major surgery—a temporal lobectomy—on May 7th, 2021, to remove the part of his brain causing the seizures. Initially, the surgery brought us a sense of hope, as Maddox remained seizure-free for nearly 9 months. However, his seizures returned in February 2022 and have continued since.
While Maddox’s seizures have become less frequent, they remain unpredictable, and we must always be on alert to keep him safe, especially while he sleeps. To ensure his safety, we are seeking a Cubby Safety Bed, a specially designed bed that will protect Maddox during his seizures at night. Unfortunately, despite going through an entire court appeals process, insurance has denied coverage for this bed. They are suggesting an alternative brain surgery, but with significant risks, including vision loss. After careful consideration, we feel this is not the right option for Maddox at this time.
We are deeply grateful to Mariah’s Miracles, an incredible organization that has already provided funding to help us get closer to our goal. Mariah’s Miracles assists families in need by providing financial support for medical equipment, therapies, and treatments. Their generosity has been a blessing, but we still need help to cover the remaining costs for Maddox’s safety bed.
Maddox has faced so much in his young life, yet his joy, courage, and bright smile continue to inspire us every day. He is a true warrior, and we are beyond proud of him. We are thankful for all the love, prayers, and support that continue to surround our family.
If you are able, please consider contributing to help us give Maddox the safety and care he needs. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support.
With love and gratitude,
Todd & Desiree Ayres
