On Saturday, November 1st, Toby’s brother Greg was in a severe e-bike accident in the hills of Studio City. When his bike malfunctioned. A bungee chord dropped into the back wheel of the bike, causing it to seize.  Greg went headfirst into a metal gate. The impact caused extensive trauma to his brain stem, resulting in significant neurological damage that affects his ability to breathe and regulate vital functions on his own. He was placed on a ventilator and remains in a coma in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai.

Doctors have been candid with the family. The injury has left Greg with severe damage to brain nerves that are crucial to basic motor control and cognitive function. When Greg regains consciousness, the road ahead will involve long-term rehabilitation, assisted care, and a drastically altered daily life.

In the days following the accident, family from all over the country came together as quickly as they could. Toby flew down from Olympia, Washington, where he works as a bartender. His sister Tracy, brother Joey, and parents Marilyn and Herman traveled from Maryland and Florida to be by Greg’s side. They’ve spent long days and nights at Cedars-Sinai, trading shifts at the bedside, trying to make sense of what’s happened and what comes next.

Now that most of the family has had to return home, Toby has decided to relocate to Los Angeles and become conservator to Greg. He needs to be here to talk with the doctors, handle placement and  paperwork, and be close to Greg when he regains consciousness. 

It will be difficult for Toby to relocate to LA and establish residency and employment. He is dedicated to advocating for and providing long term care for Greg. 

Toby is not someone who asks for help, but this situation is more than one person can carry. He is doing his best to be there for his brother, and any support would mean the world.

All funds raised will go directly toward helping Toby stay in Los Angeles and provide support for Greg as he continues to fight, covering basic living expenses and the costs of day-to-day life while setting up so he can focus on what matters most: being there for his brother.
