Help Toby Gunn on his road to recovery
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Sara-Jo & Nathaniel Maloney. We are reaching out on behalf of our dearest friend / brother Toby Gunn on his road to recovery from a freak medical emergency.
In the early hours of the morning on 20th November, Toby was in excruciating pain & called an ambulance.
Once he arrived at the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital he was immediately rushed to John Hunter Hospital.
It was quickly identified that Toby had experienced a rare medical episode call DAA : Double Aortic Arch : a rare congenital heart condition where his Aorta had split into two.
At 2am, his mother Kath was called by the Surgeon and told that Toby only had a 1 in 5 chance of survival from this condition.
Toby was taken in to have emergency surgery, where they’ve removed artery’s / veins from his leg to repair the torn aorta in his heart. With an approx 20% survival rate for operation.
He miraculously pulled through this and has been in ICU since then.
Unfortunately now, due to a few scares along the way, both of Toby’s kidneys have failed.
Toby will now require Dialysis - twice a week for the rest of his life OR until he can get a transplant or donor.
Ever the tough bastard, he just wants to get out and go home, however despite usually having a high tolerance to pain, Toby is now in constant agony.
Toby will also need Rehab for his muscles, as he is currently struggling to walk properly.
What this means is - Toby is currently unable to work and may not be able to for the foreseeable future.
Being self employed, there will be no income for Bills (Rent, Car expenses, Medical - just a few examples).
Anyone who knows the real Toby knows that he would help anyone out with anything they needed, no questions asked. We also know he has in fact helped out many in the past - with things like car repairs, money for accommodation in a crisis, support in dire situations, and many, many more.
Toby has an absolute heart of Gold. He has such a caring nature and it’s our time to help him out.
Toby is not one to ever ask for Charity but because we love him - Nathaniel & I figured that this is the only way we can truly help him while he is recovering from this ordeal.
He is one very lucky boy to be still here with us. He is a fighter.
This will be a very long road to recovery ahead for Toby, let’s all those who love him make it a little easier for him, so he can concentrate on healing.
