Hello there! My name is Tobias, and I'm a 25 year old pre-op trans man who is raising money for gender affirming top surgery. I've been on testosterone for almost two years, and started transitioning socially about 5 years ago.
Unfortunately my transition hasn't always been comfortable, or easy, especially when it comes to the weight on my chest brought by my dysphoria. I've tried binding, wearing oversized clothing, hunching my shoulders and stooping over to keep people from noticing my chest - but none of that was healthy for my mind or my body. Binding and trying to de-emphasize my chest has given me problems with my back, my ribs, and my breathing. Constantly being worried about passing has given me anxiety about being in public, and disparaged the way I think about my body.
I've wanted top surgery for a long time, but recently I was inspired to really reach for it when I met "Gentle" Ben Wallace, a trans man and star of the documentary "Real Boy" when he came to my home town. I felt like it could be a reality for me to further my transition, and I researched the possibilities when it came to surgeons that were accessible to me. I found one only a few hours away from where I live, which would save me on air fare and a place to stay while I recover.
Dr. Kenneth Wolf is the surgeon I've decided to go with, and I've already had a consultation with him. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover the surgery I need, but Dr. Wolf only charges $5900 for the surgery, with everything but prescriptions included. That means anesthesia, compression jacket for post-op, with no hidden hospital fees. He does informed consent which means I don't need any letters, and doesn't require me to stop taking testosterone for my surgery. And after my surgery, he can write a letter for my gender marker change. I'm really impressed with the results I've seen, and I would love to get my surgery done with him - I just need $5900. There's a $500 down payment that saves the date of my surgery, and the rest needs to be paid within two weeks of my surgery date.
I'd love to have the surgery before I turn 26, as I lose my insurance which will help pay for the prescriptions I currently have as well as the prescriptions I get for post-op for pain, scar care, etc.
I am so ready to have my body start working with me, to be healthy and happy with my shape and stop hiding who I am. Thank you so much for hearing me out, for being so willing to share my burden and help me shoulder the weight a little longer until I can get it off my chest. Please share my story if you can, on Facebook and Twitter, with the hashtag #TobysTopChop!
