Help Tobias Get the Vet Care He Needs

Hi everyone, thank you for clicking on this page and even just reading this little blurb. I am raising money for my baby Tobias. Tobias Mackenzie (Toby Mack) is a 7 or 8 year-old (roughly) terrier mix I rescued from the San Diego Humane Society 3.5 years ago (May 2021).

If you’ve met Toby before you know him as sweet, kind, patient, and an enormous cuddle bug! My first big-girl dog as I moved to San Diego to fully adult. He’s my emotional support pup and he is the best dang dog I’ve ever had. You know how much I love him, and how much love he gives to every single person he meets.

If you don’t know Tobias. He is “the perfect dog” and “the perfect size”. Strangers love to stop and pet him and if you give him love and pets (and treats) he will love you so much! He’s very friendly, quiet and super well behaved. When I got him 3.5 years ago, we had to go through some intense testing and vet visits to figure out that he had Kidney disease, he now lives with it with the help of prescription food and medication he takes everyday. That being said, figuring all that out meant that I had to put some other needs aside to get his health to a good point. 

I started this GoFundMe page for his dental care but this was advised against for the moment because of his condition, kidney values and age. So we decided to scrap the idea and focus on his kidneys. In January Tobias developed an infected anal gland, something that is easy to express and move on became an infection and required more attention with medication. But for a month Tobias has been silently suffering as the infection spread up to his Kidneys (already damaged). On February 20th Toby had to be admitted to the Veterinary Speciality Hospital after a consultation with specialists at UC Davis. His kidney values were off the charts and he became an emergency case. 

We found out that Tobias had an infection in the kidneys, while already dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease. This had become apparent when Toby’s appetite significantly decreased and he no longer wanted to go for walks. He has now been in the ICU overnight and this little fighter is already showing signs of recovery! He is receiving fluids and antibiotics. He is now very eager to be eating again and is getting the rest and attention he needs. 

Tobias needs to stay at the Hospital over the weekend to make sure his levels are all back to normal and to be able to focus on treating his Chronic Kidney Disease (and nothing else) when he gets out. Because of such intensive care and weekend stay, it becomes very costly very quickly. I know he’s getting the best care and the fact that he is already doing better shows me that (it was scary for a while, as his values are so high and in these cases anything can happen or turn in an instant.) 

I have reset the goal amount to $7,000 as this is what the intensive care weekend will cost me. I will leave this GoFundMe open until we reach the highest amount we can expecting not to reach the full amount. That’s okay though because I had decided this when I had to make a decision for Tobias. I knew he desperately needed this care and promised him I would do what it took and that I would figure it out—he didn’t have to worry about a thing.
