My name is Tobi, and this fund is to help me get a fully custom wheelchair. I struggle with severe chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and hypermobility that make my life extremely hard to fulfil. I am diagnosed with ME/CFS, hEDS, JIA, POTS, and fibromyalgia. While I've been a crutch user for going on five years, my ability to walk is deteriorating heavily. I have become a severe fall risk and struggle to walk safely unaided even within my own room.
I'm going to college to study prosthetics and orthotics and need a wheelchair to get me around campus safely, as there is a lot of space between buildings that is hard for me to travel between with only my crutches and causes me immense pain. For the past few years I've had many days where I have been in too much pain to even sit upright in my bed because I went to the grocery store with my mom the day before. I can't afford those days to be spent in bed when I'm in college.
While I have a second-hand chair, it's a little too big for me and the front left caster has a habit of going wobbly, which makes the entire chair shake violently and hurts extremely, not to mention the dislocations it has caused. I need to replace the part, but the part I need is discontinued and costs too much to be in my budget. It's a folding frame, which is heavy and harder to move, and it's slightly too big by about 1.5 inches.
A custom wheelchair will give me my independence back. I'll be able to save my energy for important tasks like homework and studying or even just eating instead of spending it all on walking.
I will be getting a wheelchair from the brand Not A Wheelchair, and with all of the measurements and add-ons I need (push handles, anti-tips, tapered frame) in order to make this chair the best it can be for me, the chair itself comes out to $1,774. Add shipping, and that goes up to almost $2,000 total. If I was to get a chair from a brand like TiLite or Quickie, it would be upwards of $4000, not including shipping, and would likely take too long to get to me.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

*The photo of me in the orange wheelchair is my current chair. The chair with the pink push rims is a chair I test drove earlier this year.
