Support Sarith and The Khan Family

My name is Sarith Khan and I am a Cambodian American refugee who is currently living in Philadelphia. I was born in a Thailand refugee camp following the atrocities that had caused my people to flee the War in Southeast Asia. I would like to speak on behalf of my family and my older brother, Saroun Khan who has been under detention by ICE for the past 7 months amidst the pandemic. As people who had entered the US as refugees as a result of the War in Southeast Asia, my family and I have known too well the health risks of being under harsh living conditions and the constant cycle of poverty.
That being said, due to the current conditions of this pandemic, the recent death of our mother, and our brother’s separation from our family by ICE, our family has been experiencing a tremendous amount of heartache and instability. Like many others, I live paycheck to paycheck and find myself struggling in difficulty. Due to COVID-19, my other brothers have not been employed. The situation of our family leaves me emotionally broken and financially stripped away. As my brother continues to be transferred countless times by ICE, his chances of catching and spreading the coronavirus continue to increase. And along with that, the money that I attempt to send to him continues to go to waste each time that he is transferred.
Sometimes in my hardship, I question what can be done to rectify our situation? The answer that I have for now is the love and support that can be given from the community. My ultimate goal moving forward is to continue to fight for the release of my brother and others who have fallen victim to this current system. I hope to continue to take care of ourselves and our family while doing so. Therefore, I would like to request the community to help chip in with whatever you can. Any amount received will be greatly appreciated in helping my family and I move forward.
Sincerely,
Sarith Khan
