Help to stop Noah having to attend Hansell Road

As many of you will remember from January & September last year, Brampton suffered from a flooded roads and gardens which unfortunately meant some houses were flooded. The problem occurs because of high River Ouse levels travelling down the village through Brampton Brook for the majority of the village, but our area also has the combined problem of increased water levels coming from the A14 run off & a hydro brake being installed on the Bellway estate which prevents an equal balance of water along the brooks that run behind Belle Isle.
Although this is not a personal fundraiser, this has had a devastating effect on our family & a few others in the street. Having just moved back into our house from the January 2024’s flood, we were heartbroken to then be flooded 9 weeks later & have to start all over again.
Over the last 18 months we have been working hard to gradually chip away at the problems & try & do everything possible to prevent this from happening again.
One solution is to install a non return valve on the drain that feeds into Hansell Road from the brook. In February last year the IDB & Anglian Water told Amber that this was the only solution to prevent water backing up from the brook & coming out of the drain in Hansell Road.
After attending the Amber resident management company AGM in March 2025 where it was agreed quotes would sourced and then our estate directors would look at funding, we have been told that 50% of the bill will be paid from the property management account (that all residents have to pay into) and the remaining £1980 (which is half) will have to be covered another way . This is a big ask, and this is where it gets personal, but I just want to get a good night sleep & not worry as much. To have your house flooded once was bad, to have it flooded a second time was heartbreaking, if it happened again (and potentially it will if we don’t do anything) is beyond comprehension at the minute. As homeowners we are taking measures to ensure we’ve done everything possible to prevent our property flooding, but having to fund this ourselves. After another restless night thinking about how to find nearly £2000 for our benefit of residents of Hansell Road I thought this might be a good starting point. Ideally we want to try & keep this within Belle Isle & Hansell Road residents as it just continues to highlight our problems if we put this appeal out to the wider community & that isn’t going to do anything for future house sales…trust me, I’m as worried about that as the next person!!
Any amount is gratefully received. The sooner we can raise this money, the sooner the work can be completed, which means we’ve done everything possible to reduce the risk of flooding.
