In Loving Memory of Uchenna “Common Man” Okirie.

We are heartbroken to share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Uchenna Okirie, fondly known by many as “Common Man.” Uche was tragically stabbed to death in his home. He was a remarkable soul, steady, genuine, and deeply compassionate. He completed his MSc in Development Economics at the University of East Anglia (2021/2022), where he also served as an International Student Ambassador. In every space he stepped into, he carried a quiet strength and a heart ready to serve.

Uche had a way of making life lighter for others. When friends arrived in the UK with nowhere to stay, he opened his home without hesitation. When someone needed help setting up a bank account, searching for a job, or simply navigating a new environment, Uche showed up. He was patient, thoughtful, and sincere. His honesty, selflessness, and sharp reasoning made him the kind of person you could trust with your worries and your laughter.

He had a calm and easygoing presence, the kind that steadied a room. Anyone who knew him remembers his unique smile, his willingness to share what he had, and how he quietly placed others’ comfort above his own. Though he often kept to himself, he always appeared when it mattered. He leaves behind a community of friends, course mates, and colleagues whose lives were shaped by his generosity and warmth.

Uche’s passing has left us devastated, and we are working together to honour him with dignity. We are raising funds to cover the transportation of his body back home and to support his funeral arrangements. This is our way of giving back to someone who gave so freely of himself.

We kindly ask for your support. No contribution is too small and every donation brings us closer to giving Uche the farewell he deserves. We also ask that you share this page within your networks to help us reach as many people as possible.

Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time.

Thank you for honouring Uche.

And thank you for helping us send “Common Man” home.
