Help to save Live scene in Gothenburg

Hi, Micke here, booking manager at legendary metal bar The Abyss in Gothenburg. As most of you know, we have been arranging live shows in Gothenburg for 8.5 years, around 100 shows per year, covering many generas in metal, rock, punk, synthetic n' gothic-, covering some festivals too such as Viva Sounds festival for many years, but main focus on underground sceene. Due to its unique approach and niche selection of music, The Abyss became an essential part of Gothenburg Music Sceene, contributing to city diversity in arts n culture.

Since June 2016, when The Abyss opened its doors, live music was an essential part of the place. We never had any complaints until 8.5 years down the track.

September 2024 complaints started following in from the neighbours. It escalated very fast to reports to the state - migljofervalnigen and Hyresrätforvaltningen. December, we had to plead to keep the last 6 shows. January was game over.

2 measurements were conducted, suggesting what we need to do in order to not disturb neighbours. Demands on building bas traps, isolation of different kinds of works around it. It is all very much time consuming and money consuming. All the shows hot moved and cancelled, and now we are facing real hardship. We find it hard to continue with works demanded, and we really need your help.

Taking away 70% of business, which for The Abyss us live music, proved to be much tougher than we ever expected.

This has cost us a fortune, and now we need help to even have a chance of remaining. We are the only underground scene in Gothenburg of this kind that still exists, and we are needed for the music scene in Gothenburg.

We have organized over 600 events during our 8.5 years, everything from live performances to stand-up comedy to release parties. We really hope that we once again can get your support to be able to continue existing and to bring back live music to The Abyss.

The Abyss team is working hard and tirelessly day in and day out. However, this is not enough. We need to stand United once again in The Name of Heavy Metal.
