Help repair Holme Pit Pond, Clifton

Hi, my name is John and I’m a member of the Holme Pit Action Group in Nottingham. We are a group of local volunteers with a passion for conservation, fishing and the Trent Valley. We got together in March 2000 to look after Holme Pit Pond SSSI (known locally as “Colonel’s Pond”) and the nearby River Trent which had been blighted by many years of anti-social behaviour, vandalism and fly tipping – it was a “no-go area” for the local community. Working together, we turned the area into a valued community asset, a place to sit, relax and enjoy the wildlife.

To keep on top of the maintenance, we started a local fishing club called Trent Valley Angling, and our small income from membership fees have been invested in the area, paying for day-to-day maintenance and repairs, keeping the site open and attractive for everyone to enjoy. Fortunately, the local farmers and community have supported us all the way, but we now need your help.

As you can see from the photos below, the recent storms and subsequent flooding from the River Trent (around 5ft high as it came across the fields and into the pond) have severely damaged the site, wrecking the hedge, fencing, boardwalk and depositing flood debris everywhere. We have the volunteers eager to do the repair work, but we do not have the funds to buy materials or hire machinery. Please offer any support you can, no matter how small, every bit will help.
