Help to Restore Family Home after Damage by Negligent Worker

Hi my name is Colm and this GoFundMe fundraising effort has been set up to help restore our family home, which sustained significant damage to its front portion due to the negligence of a team of roofers tasked with replacing the roof, which was historically prone to small but persistent leaks. The roofer was recommended by a team of high-profile Irish solar panel installers.

In October of 2024, work began on replacing the roof by stripping the old one.

However, after a few days, substantial leaks began to spill through the ceiling of the rooms and through celling light fittings below where the roof was exposed. This was caused by the lack of preventative measures taken by the workers to ensure the roof was watertight, that left the roof completely exposed for a duration of 3 weeks, during which time Storm Ashley was in full effect.

Naturally, my mother began to plead with the workers to take action to reduce further damage to the house, however the foreman became very irate and threatened to walk off the job.

The foreman began to demand additional money to continue the work, in addition to the thousands already paid for materials and labour as per the contract signed by both parties.

Eventually the roofers did walk off the job, citing an injury unrelated to the roof.

This left my mother, who lives alone having to deal with substantial leaks until such time as replacement roofers could be contracted. A surveyor assessed damages and described the house as "uninhabitable".

This ordeal resulted in thousands of euro worth of damage and fees;

Ultimately, the negligence of a few bad actors has resulted in considerable distress to our family and extensive damage to our home. The TV station has done their best to pursue the matter through their legal team, however they were unable to make progress. insurance will not cover the damages.

This is why we have turned to the public in this tumultuous time to help pick up the pieces and restore our house to a state of normalcy.
